1934 D. Brunt Physical & Dynamical Meteorol. xviii. 333 Bergeron has suggested the name frontolysis to denote the smoothing out of a front from discontinuity to continuity, and the name frontogenesis to denote the reverse process.
1939 Geogr. Jrnl. 94 145 The primary factor in the formation of fronts (called frontogenesis) consists of the air movements which bring cold and warm masses into juxtaposition and form a diffuse front.
1967 Jrnl. Atmospheric Sci. Nov. 627/1 The time scale for the fronto~genesis process must be small since fronts often form in less than 24 hr.
