Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin angiotomia; Greek ἀγγειοτομία.
Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin angiotomia (1669 or earlier; also angeiotomia (1688 or earlier)), or its etymon (ii) Byzantine Greek ἀγγειοτομία section of a vein < ancient Greek ἀγγειο- angio- comb. form + -τομία -tomy comb. form.
Medicine and Surgery. rare.
Incision into or opening of a blood vessel; an instance of this. Occasionally also: †the anatomy of blood and lymphatic vessels (obsolete rare).
