Etymology: < post-classical Latin ad interim (1524 or earlier) < classical Latin ad to, for (see ad- prefix) + interim (adverb) meanwhile, used as noun (see interim adv.). Compare French ad intérim (1694 or earlier). Compare earlier in the interim at interim n. 1.
