Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Angioma.
Etymology: < German Angioma (1858 or earlier; see also note) < ancient Greek ἀγγεῖον vessel (see angio- comb. form) + German -oma -oma comb. form.Compare also German Angiom (1855 (in plural form Angiome) or earlier), which is now the usual word in German.
Pathology.
A benign tumour or tumour-like lesion resulting from (or attributed to) the proliferation, dilatation, or malformation of blood vessels.Most lesions of this kind are now given the name haemangioma.spider angioma: see the first element.
