单词 angico
释义

angicon.

Brit. /anˈdʒiːkəʊ/, U.S. /ænˈdʒikoʊ/
Origin: A borrowing from Portuguese. Etymon: Portuguese angico.
Etymology: < Brazilian Portuguese angico (1817 or earlier), further etymology uncertain. It has been suggested that the Portuguese word is a borrowing < Kongo nsíki Indian mulberry ( Morinda citrifolia), but this is difficult to substantiate, and the trees are very dissimilar in both appearance and uses.
The tropical South American leguminous tree Parapiptadenia rigida, which is the source of a gum similar to gum arabic, and of useful timber and tannin-rich bark. Occasionally also: any of several other trees of the genus Parapiptadenia or the closely related genera Piptadenia and Anadenanthera.
