单词 angerful
释义

angerfuladj.

Brit. /ˈaŋɡəf(ᵿ)l/, U.S. /ˈæŋɡərf(ə)l/
Forms:

α. early Middle English ancreful, early Middle English 1600s 1800s– angerful, Middle English angirfull, Middle English angriful (perhaps transmission error), 1500s angrefull, 1600s angerfull.

β. early Middle English angresful.

Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Probably partly a borrowing from early Scandinavian. Probably partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: anger n., -ful suffix.
Etymology: Originally (in sense 1) probably < early Scandinavian (compare Old Icelandic angrfullr full of trouble) < the early Scandinavian etymon of anger n. (compare later anger n. 1) + the early Scandinavian cognate of -ful suffix. In later use (in sense 2) probably independently re-formed < anger n. + -ful suffix. Compare later angered adj., angerly adj., angry adj. With the form angriful at α. forms, perhaps compare angry adj. The β. forms show substitution of angres , genitive singular of anger n.
Somewhat rare.
