Etymology: < post-classical Latin angariation-, angariatio trouble (12th cent. in a British source; from 14th cent. in continental sources) < angariat- , past participial stem of angariare angariate v. + classical Latin -iō -ion suffix1.Compare Middle French angariation (1546 or earlier).
rare between 17th and 20th centuries.
The action or an act of forcing a person or people to do something; compulsion; spec. (esp. in later use) the exaction of forced labour. Cf. angariate v.
