Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: anti- prefix, polyneuritis n., vitamin n.
Etymology: < a- (in anti- prefix) + -neur- (in polyneuritis n.) + -in (in vitamin n.). Compare thiamine n. 3a.With the form aneurine compare the variation between vitamine and vitamin at vitamin n.
Biochemistry. Now rare.
The vitamin thiamine (vitamin B1).Deficiency of this vitamin results in the disease beriberi (beriberi n.), a nutritional polyneuropathy.
