单词 anelastic
释义

anelasticadj.

Brit. /ˌanᵻˈlastɪk/, U.S. /ˌænəˈlæstɪk/, /ˌæniˈlæstɪk/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: an- prefix2, elastic adj.
Etymology: < an- prefix2 + elastic adj. Compare earlier inelastic adj., non-elastic adj., unelastic adj.
1. Economics. In the terminology of Italian economist Umberto Ricci: designating a demand curve (or the arc of such a curve) for which the corresponding outlay curve (or arc) is constant; (also) designating a utility curve (or the arc of such a curve) for which the product of the quantity of a good (good n. 10a(c)) supplied, and the degree of utility at that quantity, is constant. Also: designating a point at which the tangent to an outlay curve is constant. rare.

1932 H. J. Wadleigh tr. U. Ricci in Jrnl. Polit. Econ. 40 150 We describe an arc of a demand curve as inelastic when the corresponding arc of the outlay curve is negatively inclined, and as anelastic when the corresponding arc of the outlay curve is horizontal. An anelastic point is a point at which the tangent to the outlay curve is horizontal.
1932 H. J. Wadleigh tr. U. Ricci in Jrnl. Polit. Econ. 40 158 If the utility curve is anelastic, the individual demand curve is also anelastic.
2. Physics. Of or relating to deformation of a material in which strain is not simply a function of stress and which is such that the material will return to its original shape once the load is removed. Also: designating deformation of this kind, or a material that undergoes such deformation. Cf. elastic adj. 3a, inelastic adj. 1a.Whereas in elastic deformation stress is proportional to strain, in anelastic deformation the rate of increase in stress is also partly dependent on time.

(ed. 2) x. 205/2 Important inferences with respect to the chemical composition and physical conditions within the deep interior of the Earth are made using information on radial variations of the elastic and anelastic parameters and density.
