Etymology: < acoumetry n. + -ic suffix; compare -metric comb. form. Compare earlier acoumeter n.See note on forms at acoumeter n. With the β. forms compare French acousmétrique (1829), Latin acusmetricus (1832 or earlier), both rare. In γ. forms < ancient Greek ἄκουσμα anything heard, rumour, report (see acousma n.) + -metric comb. form; compare post-classical Latin acusmometricus (1832 or earlier).
Medicine. Now rare.
Of or relating to the testing or measurement of the sense of hearing; audiological; audiometric.
