Etymology: < fire n. + worshipper n. With sense 2 compare earlier fire-worship n.
1. A Zoroastrian, a Parsee.Although Zoroastrians do not worship fire, the term fire-worshipper has come to be applied to them because Zoroastrian prayers and ceremonies are performed before a sacred fire (cf. quot. 1806).
