Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French animateur.
Etymology: < French animateur organizer, promoter (1914 or earlier; 1801 denoting a person who brings something to life) < classical Latin animāt- , past participial stem of animāre animate v. + French -eur -eur suffix. Compare animator n. 1b.
A person who is the driving force for or presiding influence over a cultural or other activity (esp. in the performing arts); a coordinator, a promoter. Cf. animator n. 1b.
