Etymology: < classical Latin fīlum thread, filament (see file n.2) + -o- connective + virus n.
Virology.
Any member of the family Filoviridae of enveloped, single-stranded RNA viruses with pleomorphic filamentous particles, which cause severe, often fatal, haemorrhagic fever in humans and other primates and also infect bats and pigs, and include Marburg virus and Ebola virus.
