单词 ansa
释义

ansan.

Brit. /ˈansə/, U.S. /ˈænsə/
Inflections: Plural ansae.
Forms:

α. 1600s–1700s anse.

β. 1600s– ansa.

Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French anse; Latin ānsa.
Etymology: In α. forms < French anse (1660 or earlier in this specific sense; 13th cent. in sense ‘handle’) < classical Latin ānsa (see below). In β. forms < classical Latin ānsa handle (of a vessel or tool), in post-classical Latin also either of the extremities of Saturn's rings (1642; 1630s in unpublished accounts) < the same Indo-European base as Old Prussian ansis kettle-hook, Lithuanian ąsa handle.Independent borrowings of classical Latin ānsa denoting the eye or socket fixed to the top of an astrolabe (in which the ring on which it hangs is fastened, or in which it turns) and (in anatomy) the zygomatic arch are found in isolated use in the 15th century (see Middle Eng. Dict. at cited word). The ansae of Saturn were variously explained before Christiaan Huygens proposed in 1655 that they were the extremities of a ring.
Astronomy.
Either of the (observed) extremities of Saturn's ring system, perceived to project like handles on either side of the disc of the planet. Also in extended use.
