A typographical error for an othernesse in a 1617 edition of Sidney and Golding's A Worke concerning the Trunesse of Christian Religion (see quot. 1587 at otherness n. 1 for the correct reading), defined by N.E.D. (1884) as ‘difference, non-identity’.
