Etymology: < Finland (see Finlander n.) + -ization suffix, after German Finnlandisierung.
The process or result of becoming obliged for economic reasons to favour (or refrain from opposing) the interests of the former Soviet Union despite not being formally allied to it politically, as happened to Finland after 1944; hence in extended use of similar influence by other powers on a neighbouring state.
