单词 ancienty
释义

ˈancientyn.

Forms: Middle English anciente, Middle English ancyaunte, aunciente, Middle English–1500s auncyente, auncientee, auncientye, auncyauntye, ancianitie, 1500s–1600s auncientie, antientie, ancientie, 1600s–1700s ancienty.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman ancienté for Old French ancienneté , < ancien ancient n.2, cognate with Provençal ancianetat , Italian anzianità , Spanish ancianidad . (Of Romanic formation: if the word had been Latin, the Old French would have been ancienté : see -ity suffix.) The erroneous association of ancien(t) with participial forms in -ent , finally caused ancienty to be corrupted to anciency n. Only in Scotch did the regular ancianitie (compare christianity, etc.) appear in 16th cent.
