Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French femenie.
Etymology: < Middle French femenie, femenye the kingdom of the Amazons (a1360), the feminine sex, womankind (mid 15th cent.) < classical Latin fēmina woman (see female n.) + -ie -y suffix3.
Now rare (chiefly historical and archaic after 17th cent.).
