If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. fibroso-calcareous adj. Brit. /fʌɪˌbrəʊsə(ʊ)kalˈkɛːrɪəs/, U.S. /faɪˌbroʊsoʊkælˈkɛriəs/.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin fibroso-.
Etymology: < scientific Latin fibroso-, combining form (see note) of fibrosus fibrose adj.; compare -o- connective.In fibroso-calcareous adj. after scientific Latin fibroso-calcareus (1794 or earlier). In fibroso-cartilaginous adj. after scientific Latin fibroso-cartilagineus (1810 or earlier).
