Etymology: < Old French festu (French fétu) a straw < popular Latin *festūcum = classical Latin festūca. Compare Provençal festuc (masculine), festuca, festuga (feminine), Italian festuco (masculine), festuca (feminine).
1. A straw, rush, twig; a small piece of straw, a mote in the eye (with reference to Matthew vii. 3). Hence, a thing of little importance. Obsolete.
