Llwyd, who also corresponded with J. Ray; compare the following quot. rendering an untraced Welsh word for the Greater Spotted Woodpecker):1676 F. Willughby & J. Ray Ornithologiæ 137 The Italians call it [sc. the Greater Spotted Woodpecker] Cul rosso, the Welsh by a name signifying Fire-tail [L. Podex flammeus].
