单词 featous
释义

featousadj.

Forms: α. Middle English fetis(e, -ys(e, Middle English fetyce, 1500s Scottish fettis; see also featish adj. β. Middle English fet(e)ous, 1500s feytous, ( feat-, fetus(se), feateous, 1500s–1600s feat(u)ous, 1600s fetuous.
Etymology: Middle English fetys , < Old French fetis, feitis, faictis, < Latin factīcius : see factitious adj. In 15–17th cent. the ending was confused variously with the suffixes -ish , -ous , -eous , -uous , and the word seems to have been apprehended as a derivative of feat adj., to which in later use it approximates in sense.
