Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ἀνατολικός.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek ἀνατολικός eastern, in Byzantine Greek also specifically with reference to the Eastern Orthodox Church < ancient Greek ἀνατολή east (see Anatolian adj.) + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare earlier Anatolian adj.Compare post-classical Latin anatolicus eastern (c400), French anatolique (1660, in thème anatolique, or earlier).
