Etymology: < post-classical Latin anopistographus anopisthograph adj. + -ic suffix, originally after Dutch anepistografiesch (1870 in the passage translated in quot. 1871). Compare earlier opisthographic adj. and later anopisthograph adj., anopisthographical adj.Compare French anopistographique (1825 or earlier), German anopistographisch (1831 or earlier).
Bibliography. Now rare.
Of a leaf of a book, document, etc.: having writing or printing on one side only; (of a book) having leaves of this type.Frequently with reference to early books printed with engraved wooden blocks.
