Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin fastuosus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin fastuosus proud, haughty (5th cent.), ostentatious (13th cent. in a British source) < classical Latin fastus haughtiness, arrogance (see fast n.3) + -ōsus -ous suffix. Compare later fastuose adj.With sense 2 compare Middle French, French fastueux ostentatious (1537).
Now rare.
