fasting gut n. Anatomy. Obsolete the jejunum, (the section of) the small intestine between the duodenum and ileum, which is typically found to be empty on post-mortem examination. [After classical Latin iēiūnum intestīnum, literally ‘hungry gut’ or ‘fasting gut’ (see jejunum n.).]
