单词 fallera
释义

falleran.

Forms: late Middle English fallera, 1500s falera.
Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French fallera; Latin fallera.
Etymology: < (i) Middle French fallera , felera (late 14th cent.), or its etymon (ii) post-classical Latin fallera, felera, fellera (12th cent.; frequently in gutta filera, gutta felera, etc.; compare gout n.1), probably < classical Latin fel bile (see fell n.4) + -era (in cholera cholera n.), after an assumed derivation of cholera from chole bile ( < ancient Greek χολή : see discussion at cholera n.). Compare also French falère, Catalan fallera, falera disease of sheep (both 19th cent.), perhaps reflecting the same formation in post-classical Latin.
Falconry. Obsolete. rare.
A disease of hawks characterized by whitening of the talons (not identified).
