Etymology: < scientific Latin angulifer (also anguliferus; from 1819 as a specific name in zoology; < classical Latin angulus angle n.1 + -fer -fer comb. form) + -ous suffix.Compare French angulifère having angles (1838). N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (æŋgiuli·fĕrəs) /æŋɡjuːˈlɪfərəs/.

1887 F. C. Antelminelli in Rep. Sci. Results Voy. H.M.S. Challenger: Bot. II. iv. 106 Soon after Ehrenberg established the genus Triceratium among the anguliferous Diatoms, frustules were found which exactly corresponded to its essential characters, but which had valves with four or five angles.
