Compounds

fakement-charley n. (also fakeman-charley) Obsolete (apparently) a secret owner's mark made on a piece of stolen property (see also quot. 1819). [The origin of the second element is uncertain; the male forename Charley is recorded as part of a variety of slang expressions, especially in rhyming slang, but no use in a relevant sense has been traced. It has also been suggested that quot. 1819 reflects a misunderstanding of the name of an actual person.]

Flash Lang. in Memoirs II. at Fakeman-charley Speaking of any stolen property which has a private mark, one will say, there is a fakeman-charley on it..in a word, anything is liable to be termed a fakement, or a fakeman-charley, provided the person you address knows to what you allude.
