Etymology: < fag n.3 (compare sense 1b at that entry) + -dom suffix. Compare earlier fagging n.1 3, faggery n.
Now historical and rare.
Esp. in certain British independent boarding schools for boys: a system under which junior pupils are expected to carry out tasks or chores for senior pupils. Also: the fact or condition of being a fag (fag n.3 1b). Cf. fagging n.1 3.
