Etymology: < Panjabi anand kāraj < anand bliss, joy ( < Sanskrit ānanda : see Ananda n.) + kāraj action, marriage ( < Sanskrit kārya duty, rite, gerundive of kṛ- to make, to do: see karma n.); compare Anand Sāhib , the name of a hymn used in the ceremony (with the honorific Sāhib , used for Sikh scriptural texts).
