Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin factrix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin factrix female maker or creator (from 13th cent. in British sources; earlier as feminine adjective: c400), feminine form corresponding to classical Latin factor factor n. < classical Latin fact- , past participial stem of facere to do, make (see fact n.) + -trīx -trix suffix.
Scottish. Now historical and rare.
A female agent or trustee appointed to administer someone else's estate; a female factor (factor n. 3b). Cf. factoress n. 1.
