Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Or (ii) formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Etymons: ante- prefix, penult adj.; Latin antepaenultima.
Etymology: Either < ante- prefix + penult adj., after post-classical Latin antepaenultima antepenultima n., or shortened directly < post-classical Latin antepaenultima antepenultima n. Compare later antepenultimate adj.
