Etymology: < Middle French, French facétieux witty, humorous, pleasant (end of the 15th cent. in Middle French as facecieux ) < facétie ( < classical Latin facētia : see facetiae n.) + -eux -ous suffix.In sense 1 after classical Latin facetus facete adj.
