Etymology: An alteration of extra- prefix ( < classical Latin extrā outside; compare extra prep.), after the analogy of classical Latin intrō inwards, beside intrā inside (see intra prep. and compare intra- prefix). Compare also Latin contrō- (see controversed adj.).
