单词 expection
释义

expectionn.

Brit. /ᵻkˈspɛkʃn/, /ɛkˈspɛkʃn/, U.S. /ɛkˈspɛkʃən/, /ᵻkˈspɛkʃən/
Forms: 1500s expeccion, 1500s– expection.
Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Probably also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: expectation n.; expect v., -ion suffix1.
Etymology: In early use (in quot. 1532) apparently an alteration of expectation n., after inspection n., suspection n., etc.; compare slightly later expect v. In later use probably partly irregularly < expect v. + -ion suffix1, after the above-mentioned models, and partly a typographical error for expectation n.
Now rare.
= expectation n. (in various senses). Some later examples may represent a typographical error for expectation: see etymology.
