Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French eventation.
Etymology: < Middle French eventation (French †éventation ) venesection (c1530 in the passage translated in quot. ?1543; late 14th cent. in senses ‘evaporation’ and ‘aeration’) < eventer event v.1 + -ation -ation suffix. Compare slightly later event v.1 Compare also earlier eventing n.1Compare post-classical Latin eventatio ventilation, respiration (6th cent.; from 13th cent. in British sources).
Obsolete.
The action or process of causing (supposed) noxious vapours to escape from the blood, esp. by opening a vein; the action of opening a vein to extract a small quantity of blood.
