Etymology: < German Analogon (1784) and its etymon ancient Greek ἀνάλογον that which is analogous, use as noun of neuter singular of ἀνάλογος (adjective) according to due ratio, proportionate, conformable < ἀνά- ana- prefix + λόγος account, ratio, proportion (see Logos n.).
= analogue n. (in various senses); esp. a thing which is comparable with, resembles, or is equivalent to another.With quot. 2003: see analogical adj. 4.
