Etymology: < French anallatisme (H. de Senarmont 1849, in Ann. des mines 16 390, or earlier; < Hellenistic Greek ἀνάλλακτος unchangeable ( < ancient Greek ἀν- an- prefix² + Hellenistic Greek ἀλλακτός equivalent < the stem of ancient Greek ἀλλάσσειν to change (see allactite n.) + -τός , suffix forming verbal adjectives) + French -isme -ism suffix), with remodelling of the ending after -ism suffix. Compare anallatic adj.
