Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin exitiālis.
Etymology: < classical Latin exitiālis causing or bringing death or destruction, fatal, deadly < exitium destruction, disaster, ruin, death, cause of death or ruin ( < exit- , past participial stem of exīre to go out (see exit v.1) + -ium : see -y suffix4) + -ālis -al suffix1.
Now literary and somewhat rare.
Hurtful; destructive; ruinous; deadly, fatal.
