With use denoting a bird (sense 2) compare earlier eve-jar n., nightjar n., churn-owl n., and nightchurr n. at night n. and int. Compounds 4.
Obsolete.
1. A mole cricket (probably Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa).Other names for this insect include churr-worm and nightchurr.
