Müller Animalcula infusoria (1786) 43), specific use of post-classical Latin anguillula little eel (12th cent. in a British source) < classical Latin anguilla eel (see anguille n.) + -ula -ule suffix.

Now rare and chiefly historical.

Any of various nematodes, esp. ones that are free-living or parasitic on plants.Most of these nematodes may at some time been included in the genus Anguillula or the former family Anguillulidae.
