Snodgrass, of the Bureau of Entomology, the writer calls the extremely thin outermost layer (Grenzlamelle) the epicuticula, the brittle, pigmented outer layer (epidermis, Pigmentschichte) the exocuticula, and the flexible, colorless inner layer (dermis, Hauptlage) the endocuticula. 1951 A.
