Forms: (? Middle English wloge, 1500s–1600s eulogie, 1600s–1700s euloge, 1600s– eulogy.
Etymology: In sense 1 probably anglicized form of eulogium n.: but the ulterior source is Greek εὐλογία praise, in the New Testament blessing ( < εὐ- + -λογία speaking, after phrase εὖ λέγειν to speak well of), of which the word in sense 2 is an adaptation.
