释义 | etiolinn. Biochemistry. Now disused. A yellow precursor of chlorophyll formed in the chloroplasts of dark-grown plants; = protochlorophyll n. ΚΠ 1875 Jrnl. Bot., Brit. & Foreign 13 115 The chromule of etiolated leaves, which the author [sc. N. Pringsheim] proposes to call Etiolin, gives a spectrum nearly identical with that of chlorophyll, only differing as to the amount of absorption in the places corresponding to the chlorophyll bands. 1907 F. E. Clements Plant Physiol. & Ecol. iv. 80 An examination of the plastids [of dark-grown plants] shows that they are more or less of a yellow color, due to the presence of a pigment called etiolin. 1937 Plant Physiol. 12 885 Pringsheim made similar studies in 1874 and concluded that a special pigment was present which he called ‘etiolin’. This substance seems to be identical with protochlorophyll. This entry has been updated (OED Third Edition, March 2014; most recently modified version published online March 2022). < n.1875 |
