单词 erysipelas
释义

erysipelasn.

/ɛrɪˈsɪpɪləs/
Forms: Middle English herisipila, 1500s herisipelas, erisipila, 1500s–1600s erisipelas, erisipilas, erisipylas, erisypelas, erysipilas, erysipiles, erysipely, ( eresipyla, iresipilis, 1800s earisiply), 1600s– erysipelas.
Etymology: < Greek ἐρυσίπελας (Hippocrates), of doubtful etymology. Commonly regarded as < *ἔρυσις reddening ( < Old Aryan *rudhti-s , < root *reudh , whence Greek ἐρυθρός red) + πελ- in πέλλα skin (cognate with Latin pellis and fell n.1); but the formation appears abnormal. For the first element compare ἐρυσίβη red blight on corn.
Pathology.
A local febrile disease accompanied by diffused inflammation of the skin, producing a deep red colour; often called St. Anthony's fire, or ‘the rose’.
