Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ἀναχρονίζειν.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek ἀναχρονίζειν to be late in doing, (in passive) to be an anachronism < ancient Greek ἀνα- ana- prefix + χρόνος time (see chronic adj.) + -ίζειν -ize suffix. Compare earlier anachronism n. Compare also earlier anachronic adj., anachronical adj.
1. intransitive. To commit an anachronism or anachronisms; to place something in a period of time to which it does not belong (esp. one which is earlier than its true date).
