单词 entrike
释义

entrikev.

Forms:

α. Middle English entriged (past participle), Middle English entrikied (past participle), Middle English–1500s entrike, Middle English–1500s entryke, 1500s entriek.

β. Middle English–1500s intrike, Middle English–1500s intryke, 1500s intrick.

Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French intriquer.
Etymology: < Middle French intriquer to entangle (c1300 in Old French), to complicate (c1400) < classical Latin intrīcāre (see intricate adj.). Compare intricate v., intrigue v.The α. forms apparently show prefix substitution (see en- prefix1), since forms of this verb with initial en- are very rare in French. The form entriged in quot. a1400 at sense 1 appears to show voicing of the intervocalic plosive within English; French forms of intriguer intrigue v. are only securely attested considerably later (from the early 16th cent.). With the form intrick at β. forms perhaps compare trick v.
Obsolete.
