Etymology: < French entrepôt temporary deposit of goods (end of the 15th cent. in Middle French as interpost ; 1600 as entrepos ), place to which goods are brought for temporary storage and distribution (1690 as entrepost ) < entreposer (see interpose v.), with alteration after dépôt depot n.In form entreport probably with alteration after port n.1
1. Temporary deposit of goods or provisions; esp. the deposit and storage of goods, typically duty-free, at a port, city, or other centre prior to their being imported, exported, or otherwise distributed. Now rare.
