Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French entremets.
Etymology: < Middle French, French entremets (see entremess n.). Compare earlier entremess n.The singular form entremet at β. forms is an inferred singular. The final -s of the French word (which has the unchanged plural form entremets ) is not a plural morpheme, but came to be interpreted as such in English. With the form intermets at α. forms compare inter- prefix, and also intermess n.
